Set Your Targets and Make It Happen in 2018

January 25, 2018

As the new year begins, now is the perfect time to refocus and set your goals for 2018. Goal setting is crucial to your success and every high achiever has targets they are striving to hit. Goals allow you to stay focused and not get caught up in the day to day whirlwind. Success is not a straight line, it’s filled with failure and adversity. Your goals are in place to help you get from point A to point B.

The number one rule for setting goals is to write them down. Preferably every day. Writing down your goals and keeping them visible is a way of cementing them in your brain. You want to constantly be reminded of what you’re striving for, so you can see past the distractions that will inevitably pop up along the way.

Make sure not only to write down your goals but also why they are important to you. This will help you find motivation when the path to success seems overwhelming or unclear. Your goals should be measurable, for example; your goal shouldn't be "I want to save money this year for my first real estate investment". Instead, your goal should be "I want to put away $50,000 by the end of the year for my first single family investment property”. If you want to take it a step further, you can break that down even more. "I want to save $4,000 a month for 12 months". The point is that you want to be able to keep track of your progress. Having a specific measurable goal within a set time period is key to achieving it.

Financial goal setting is important, but you also need to set goals in other areas of your life. Doing so will actually have a positive effect on your financial objectives. Incorporating goals such as going to the gym regularly, eating a healthy diet or reading 30 minutes day will play a major part in your success. Goals such as these teach self-discipline and if you want to be successful, self-discipline is a skill you will need to master.

At the end of the year, you want to be able to look back and see that you’ve crushed your goals. That starts with planning. Now is the time to reflect on last year’s journey and find ways to improve your strategy. Continue to push yourself every day to and work towards accomplishing your long-term goals. Make 2018 your best year yet!
